Thank you both so much. I will use that method to do the water. I am trying the circulism technique here. I find it sooooo relaxing and gives you a chance to think it through....Of course I always overthink EVERYTHING!!!!
This is just done in a sketch pad for now but if it turns out I hope to do it on proper drawing paper.

Hi Arlene, you've done his face very well. For the water I would personally use graphite powder to cover the space occupied by the water and pick out the highlights of the water with a kneadable rubber. Good luck.

Hi Arlene, it's coming along nice the water is done the same way as painting starting light tone to dark you can take out the light reflection with rubber...your doing fine

Here is my reference photo

This is a drawing I am working on and the reference photo I am working from. I would appreciate any advice. I am not sure how to attempt the water in pencil and his face is obscured by shadow but I insist on making it detailed. Thanks for your help!!!
