John, when I first looked at this painting, I thought it was a photo. Wonderful waves, a serene and uncluttered painting.

Thanks to everyone. I really do appreciate your comments. It makes it worth the while I spend painting. My website has just collapsed though, and I can't seem to visit it. Mind you, there is no image enlarging feature on it, so maybe I should not be…

About Me:
Just a Senior Citizen in UK, whiling away my time, writing, painting, making furniture and playing jazz on my guitar. Lack of focus you see. Jack of all trades; master of none! I don't have "Senior Moments"; merely "Intellectual Intermissions".

I ought to put something less flippant here. I'll leave the lighter stuff in though, because I never take myself too seriously; or try not to.

I have painted and drawn for as long as I can remember, but it was a sporadic hobby. After leaving school in 1954 I didn't do too much of it. I was busy 'learning my trade' in the Royal Navy, where I served for for ten years. I did get some commissions from mess-mates, but mostly pin-ups were called for. I was happy enough to draw these for a carton of cigarettes. I don't smoke now so that's gone by the board!

It wasn't until 1980 that I took a serious interest in painting. I had suffered a hernia and in those days at least 14 days of 'rest' was prescribed after surgery. In the end it was a month or so, before I got back to work. During that time, to get light exercise, I took to walking in a large park near my home and to make the walks more productive I decided to take a sketch-book with me. I realised what I'd been missing and the rest, as we say, is history.

About ten years ago, I joined a local art group of like-minded friends, and we meet each Wednesday to paint and bounce ideas off one another. We have an annual exhibition of course and through that I do manage to reach a wider audience. It's much like Craft-Crowd. Everyone mucks in together, and we do things!

Lately, I am giving in to pressure and I am going for the Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists. My website is up and running; slowly gathering momentum and I update my blog as often as I can. So I am all set to enjoy my art. Now I found Craft-Crowd, I have yet another avenue of discovery and am making more friends as I go.

So, thanks for visiting my page and thanks for listening, if you got this far.

Hello John,
thank you very much for your comment about the glue that you use. I often paint on canvas sheets to practice and to save money, and not to mess up a canvas if it turns out badly. But I have painted a couple of paintings on canvas sheets and they turned out really nice, so I will try to glue them on to a wood or canvas panel and frame them.
Thank you and I hope your weekend will be nice.
